Campus Writing & Speaking Program’s September Brown Bag Event is “Graduate Writing and Communication: Current Status and Future Prospects” with Dr. Shannon Madden, Director of Graduate Writing at NCSU on Tuesday, September 24 from 12-1pm in Fox 206.
Although writing and communication are central to graduate students’ development as scholars and their ability to circulate and disseminate their research, the demand on faculty to teach content often limits how much time and attention they can pay to disciplinary communication practices in graduate-level courses. Learning to communicate like an expert in the discipline is a lifelong process, which is complicated by the fact that graduate students come to their programs with a wide range of experiences and abilities as well as developmental needs. Join us for a discussion about graduate students’ communication needs and strategies for supporting their writing, speaking, and development as emerging experts in their disciplines.
